A Lesson In Invention - Cars: Art, Design And Innovation
Who would have ever thought that you could learn about art and design from the automotive industry.
I'll never look at cars the same again after viewing this video. This just goes to prove that everything can be reframed and rethought depending on the perspective of the viewer. Always remember, that you see the world through the eyes of the discourse that you are. A designer will see the world through the language of design. An engineer will see the world as a problem to be solved. And the artist will see the world as a piece of art that is waiting to be painted, molded or sculpted.
I spent well over a decade in the automotive industry as a process engineer, a product manager and then as an account manager. This is a wonderful story that melds the concepts of design, engineering and teamwork. I spent time at the Spartanburg BMW plant many years ago.
So, when I saw this particular video I was interested not only in the topic, concept and exchange of ideas; but also, the design process from the perspective of a designer.
I wanted to know what designers really do and think when they sit down to design a car.
And, of course, I am looking to see how I can use some of these lessons in my own business.
I hope that you find this video as interesting and mind stretching as I found it.
Coming across and embracing completely different perspectives, is one of the foundations of innovation.
Enjoy the video,
