The Value Of Observation And Action

Have you even found an old box, and as you go through the box you remember the things that were happening when you were accumulating those items?

Finally, I did an inventory last week and unearthed at least 5 years worth of unreleased content. Notes, ebooks, videos, mindmaps, old courses etc.

This stuff has been sitting on eight hard drives for the last several years.

Let me tell you what this stuff is…

I have been very quiet over the last several months for a few reasons.  If you noticed after we blueprinted the whole Obama Marketing Campaign, I stopped blogging, I stopped tweeting, I stopped e-mailing, I stopped Facebooking…

Just stopped all of it… Why?

Social Media Can’t Sell Everything

Contrary to popular advertising and marketing beliefs, you can’t sell a future that people don’t want or need anymore. The Obama Campaign was promoting a future that the people wanted. People wanted the future, thus they promoted the story and in the end acted to fulfill the story.

Social media are like the wind. It is there. You can see it moving. And more importantly, you see the effects. Social media are all about developing and engaging in consistent intentional conversations around relevant content within a meaningful context within an eager community.

Yes, that is a mouthful. If you look at that statement at a surface level you will most likely continue to advertise and market in the same manner that you have for years, and you will get the same dwindling results. However, with a true operating understanding of new media, that statement above not only sounds impressive; it is actionable and measurable.

What Are You Really Doing with Your Business?

Sometime you need to sit back and analyze what you are doing with your business.  There is a whole area of activity that can suck up time and funds without the business owner truly being aware of the drain it can have on your bottom line.  I called this activity “Non-Revenue Generating Actions”

As a business owner, you can easily get caught up in doing things that don’t make any money for your business. Usually we classify things like:

  • getting the mail
  • paying bills
  • paperwork
  • building websites
  • answering email or the phone

as things that need to be outsourced and not “important” for a business owner to handle. The craze right now is to outsource everything. That is fine, if you are outsourcing the

  • right things
  • to the right people
  • for the right projects.

But there is a bigger hole in your business that is beyond outsourcing. It is the thinking that chooses the projects that you work on.

Using Mobile Technology To Make The Right Decisions

A merging of mobile technology, communication and data retrieval is becoming a reality. This is an amazing mobile computing demonstration. (See Below)

  • Total Mobile Data Accessibility
  • Cost Effective
  • Made from already existing mobile technology

This is a merging of several major spaces:

Mobile technologies for:

  • Data retrieval
  • Decision Making
  • Recommendations

The implications for human machine interactions is moving rapidly to a new level of innovation and usability.

So the question becomes how does this impact your business?

Simple Answer: If your data is not on the web, if you have not created the proper relevant and tagged story that is accessible to the user, you will be shut out of that marketing channel. Further, the data itself will not be of value because it will be available everywhere instantaneously.

The use of the data for decision making is rapidly becoming the valuable commodity.

Until next time,

2 Minutes Well Spent – The End of Time Management

Face the facts. There is no way to manage time itself.  You can't move 2pm to 9am just because you want to. You can't stretch an hour by 5 minutes. Oh, but I wish I could. And I bet that if you had the "magic power" you would manipulate time too. Management means that you can move things around and rearrange things. This is so not the case with time. It is what it is. A minute is a minute and they are whizzing by right now. The video below will give you a framework to think about time in a new way. This is two minutes well spent.

Combating Online Information Overload

Information overload

By David Bullock

Online information overload is a problem that few of us think about, but we feel the affects of it every day.

I got a lesson in TMI (Too Much Information) yesterday. As I was watching my little one read, she reminded me of the importance of learning what is important and useful in the information-gathering process.

To make a long story very short, while reading a passage in a book, my daughter got upset. As I asked her what was going on she said, “I just read for five minutes and they could have told me the whole story in 30 seconds.” Immediately, I taught her how to scan for important information using a “keyword-like” method.

And of course this got me thinking…

SpaceTime – A New Way To Search The Internet

A 3D Internet Browser That Works – David Bullock

I just ran across this new application for searching called SpaceTime. I have been exploring alternative browser interfaces for years, looking for a browser that would do the following:

  • Remember automatically where I was and what I was looking at.
  • Give me a “space” to search the internet in a non linear fashion.
  • Let me use search as a tool to find the exact information that I want quickly.
  • Give me a true 3D experience while browsing.

SpaceTime does this and much more.

It creates a “space” for your online experience that gives you room to explore the internet through all media.

It is a fascinating application that I look forward to using for years to come. Every now and then an application is created that truly creates a new user experience. This is one of those applications. Check it out. I think you will be very impressed.
