Hidden Social Media Strategy – Building Credibility Is A Process

Have you noticed that folks seem to come out of no where online and then just disappear?

To have staying power in the marketplace you have to develop “street cred”. Credibility is the only thing that will allow you to weather the storms of change that are part and parcel of the business world we live in now.

How Do You Build Credibility?

Rule #1: Don’t Just Wave Your Hands – Get It Done And Prove It.

Rule #2: Don’t Talk About Anything That You Don’t Have Personal Experience With

Rule #3: Be Willing To Say “I Don’t Know”

Rule #4: Be Willing To Test Your Own Theories

Over the last 6 months, Brent and I have been working very hard to understand and leverage social media. Documenting the 2008 Presidential Campaign was just the start.

We wanted to use what we learned to create a product and transactions to prove the model from end to end.

Well folks. We are at the six month mark…

  • Social media supported book sales – 350+ units.
  • Major media coverage – 11+ Outlets
  • Events – 20+

The full story is here: www.Barack20.com/mediaroom.html

Notice that most of these events and media are OFFLINE.

Big lesson: To develop credibility Online move Offline.

Bear this in mind as you promote your business.

If you focus too keenly online you are missing where people are still gathering information about what is important to them.

David,

My first thought was that, when any marketing campaign using the approach of we listen to you, we know what you want, we put you first, we care about you, we are your friend in an approachable, we are in it together. Also, if they are sociable in a down-to-earth-manner, welcoming all way, there is no way they can lose. This is one of the reasons why Christ was able to become such a demand among people of His day and even people today. He had the servant attitude. I am here to serve you and everyone can become part of my family.

Is this not what the Obama campaign did? This will work for anyone if they put people first. Then both people and their money will come. They will stick around, because they will want to. When the business can fulfill a need. People are just looking for something. A connection with something they can love for example.

What do you think about my thoughts?

I did not check out your link above yet!

God bless.

P.S. I sent you an email regarding Facebook.
